Subject: Better late than never..

All,

I want to introduce myself to the list. I have been lurking for a few
months now, sometimes even replied to some of the mails, but all the while
you guys (and gals) didn't know me from Adam. So here goes...
My name is Adriaan Haine, but everyone calls me Adri, I was born in 1959
and am employed as a Mainframe- computer programmer (yep, free access to
the Internet and free e-mail) in a big bank-insurance concern in Leuven,
Belgium.
Belgium is situated in Europe, next to Germany and France.
I have been diving since 1992 and am currently passing the 750 dives mark.
I have qualifications with CMAS (3 star diver), PADI (Advanced OW ) and
IANTD (Advanced Nitrox). Most of my diving is in the Oosterschelde, a sea -
arm of the Northsea. I am interested in biology so during my dives I watch
everything that moves.I always dive with a buddy and we always use a
buddy-line, due to the limited visibility in the Oosterschelde (1-5
metres). When I dive a wreck, it is not for the wreck per se, but for the
abundant life found on it. In the winter months, when the weather is harsh,
we dive inland in flooded quarries. The depth range of my diving is situated
between 20 and 45 metres. In the winter, water tempertures get as low as 2
degrees Celcius, and in the summer we top out at 21 degrees . Bottom time
is limited to 30 minutes because of the currents, total dive time averages
around 50 minutes. 85 percent of my dives are non-decompression dives.
Since I took the Nitrox courses, I have been diving exclusively with EANx
mixtures. In contrary to the IANTD guidelines, I limit my PPO2 to 1.3 max,
and mix accordingly (usually I dive using Eanx26 to EANx32 mixtures).
Occasionally, when I have a third (shallow) dive, I remain above 20 metres
and dive Eanx40. I have no desire to go to Trimix since the nature of my
diving does not demand it , Heliox on the other hand..looks more
interesting for the kind of diving I do. Since I followed the list, I have
been changing over from a traditional BC to harness and wing. I have always
dived using a drysuit (Aquion Pro Trilam but my next one will be a DUI
CF200X) and double 7's or double 10's (litres), using twin Spiro Arctic
regulators which always were configured according to DIR (pure chance or
did I get it right the first time?)
I am very interested in the theory behind decompression and monitor
everything you guys have to say about it. Also the theory on Trimix and
Heliox diving interests me very much, and I follow other sources to see
where all this is leading to.
In the near future I plan to get further education in Nitrox diving ,
continue to enjoy the diving I do and hope to get a vacation to the North
(Scotland or Norway/Sweden) It would be my first since 1996 .

Take care
Adri Haine,
Belgium
