That is a big part of the problem. They did not receive complete instruction. They had part of the puzzle, but not all of it. They thought they knew enough to modify the system and learn as they go. They found out they were wrong, but they learned. They are competent recreational divers and intelligent people. They really will be technical good divers with a litttle help and a little experience. As for the name of the Florida cave diver - I really do not wish to give out his name on a public forum. Jess Armantrout has his name. Ask him.
