many years ago i used to teach in a high school that had drug problems with
the students. so it's not without experience in this area that i say that your
analogy is quite floored.
in that school system the powers that be felt that they should ignore the
problem with regard to educating the students as to the ills of the drugs(i.e.
show them the results of there actions by bringing them to rehb centers, or
have past drug addicts discuss the problem with them). they took the hard line
- they threatened them with punishment instead - this resulted in two deaths
do to overdoses that i personally witnessed of course the powers that be
blamed every one & everything else for the deaths.
you have some good points with regard to wrolfs comments & he has raised some
valid questions. why don't you & he just answer each others queries & move on
from there. it probably would be a lot easier that threatening each other.

Wrolf,
You are still whining about free speech, like it justifies the
misdirections, obsfucation, and confusion your posts generate.
I'll make another analogy for you, to make it easier for you to understand
why many of us really don't want you posting here anymore.
Let's say you are a senior in highschool, or a freshman in college. You are
in a small school, and you your class is about 100 students---you know all
of them. Ten students you know have been taking LSD, and coke, and are
trying to convince other students it gives them a huge advantage in
creativity---very useful in writing, art and even understanding of science.
And they say the cocaine will allow you to study for 8 hours per day, during
exam weeks, with no effort. And you retain, as long as you use the coke to
take the test. And another benefit they claim is more enjoyable athletic
workouts. They claim the right to free speech. They claim its their right to
tell the other students about "their way".
You know from the last school you were in, several students--friends, that
died from exactly what these ten are now doing. You know, with ABSOLUTE
CERTAINTY, that the course of action these students are suggesting to the
remaining 90 of your friends, will "kill" some of them in the next few
months. You know that "the ten" are very persuasive, and that other
friends are listening to them. You have told your other friends how
dangerous this course of action is, but the ten have convinced everyone that
no "proof" exists for your position----and it has become their word against
your word. But you "know" the real truth. This is absolute certainty. And it
has been proven, again and again.
You now have decided "the ten" need to either be kicked out of the school
before they kill someone with their ideas, or they need to shut their mouths
and stop trying to lead others down their path. You have effectively
decided AGAINST free speech.
If you decided that they should be allowed to continue their attempts to
convince many of your friends to take drugs you know will kill some of them,
because of your belief in free speech---you are no friend to anyone. You are
as bad if not worse than the drug peddlers--because you actually KNOW who
dangerous the practice is, but refuse to act on your knowledge.
This is why many of us have opposed Wrolf Courtney participation on this
tech list----we know your ideas will confuse and misdirect new tech divers,
at a critical time in their lives when they may have precious little time
left to find the right "path" too safe technical diving. Each day you
misdirect and confuse them, you come closer to killing these novice tech
divers, by preventing them from adopting the DIR procedures and
configurations of gear that would have protected them. This is why I see
you like the drug peddler, and why I want you OUT OF HERE.
This is why I can't be "Nice" or polite to you anymore. If I ran into a
crack dealer at a Seven Eleven convenience store, and saw him trying to sell
crack to a friend of mine's son, you can believe he would be beaten to a
pulp, on the spot. This is an absolute responsibility--one which we all
share.
Wrolf, at this time, each of us has a responsibility to give you a "virtual
beating", in response to behavior by you ---which we know is potentially
going to contribute to a technical diving death, by the mechanisms already
discussed.
Keep it up, and I can foresee some of us feeling the need to go beyond a
your "virtual beating", in our attempts to save lives which you are now
jeopardizing. Whether this becomes legal/financial, or physical, only time
and your future postings will determine.
Wrolf, you are placing us in a position where we are morally compelled to
make an action---one which you will not enjoy. Wake up, see what you have
been doing from our perspective, and change immediately. You are NOT a
champion of free speech----you are a source of dangerous misdirection in
technical diving, one which may kill a diver very soon. How can you expect
us to treat any way other than the way you've been treated so far, or much
worse in the future.
