Dean,
I forgot to mention to you that I will ask my friend about any good
resources related to great whites in that area.  I would be perfectly
happy not to see any great whites for the rest of my dive life.  I saw a
big tiger shark in 15' of water in Cancun back in 1979 when I was
snorkeling.  Needless to say it was a bit intimidating.  Have you dove
the wrecks in Wreck Alley off of Mission Bay?  There are a lot of wrecks
in the Santa Catalina area as well if you haven't had a chance to drive
up here.
