Steve, Viton o-rings come in black and brown and Nitrile (Buna-N) are also black. A good way to tell them apart ( if you have spares) is to try to ignite one with a lighter. Nitrile will burn and Viton will slowly melt and not ignite. ie: this is why Viton is better for Nitrox. Another factor effecting the performance of o-rings is the durometer. Viton comes in 75 and 90 durometer. I have found that the 75 durometer o-rings extrude and also swell a lot in size in applications were cylinder pressures are 3000-3400 psi and the 90 durometer Viton o-rings hold up to the pressure much better.
