>Well for one reason, if you are filling Nitrox (by partial pressure >blending) at any of the dive shops in my area, they won't fill if you don't >have a Viton o-ring (and the magic sticker) as evidence of O2 clean tanks. >>Why on earth would one use a viton O-ring in this location? Gentlemen: I teach scuba and fill tanks for a living. I teach gas and blend nitrox in order to put groceries in my 'fridge and gas in my car. I pay high insurance premiums for professional underwater liability insuranace classes and gear rentals. It's hard work but I don't complain. Are you telling me that I should NOT use viton o-rings when the manufacturers that certified me to work on their nitrox gear requires viton ? Are you telling me that I should not use viton o-rings when the certification agencies that certified to blend nitrox and clean nitrox gear requires viton ? Are you telling me that I should not use viton o-ring when distributors of the o-rings and cleaning agents for nitrox applications that taught me require viton ? Not to mention the additional information I have came across from compressor manufacturers, cylinder manufacturers, commercial gas suppliers, haz mat data sheets, trade publications, medical equipment suppliers, lab equipment reps, military manuals, government publications, etc. etc. As Dr. Dick Boyd once told me " You want to avoid things going BOOM ! " Kevin " You'll never miss the water, until the well runs dry . . ..
