Yoke valves ? Just say no.

July 26, 1998, 8:00 AM.

Wreck dive on the USS Moody.

23 minutes at 152 FSW.

One OMS 45 with 80/20 ( with a Beauchat Nitrox Yoke Valve mated to a Zeagle
Tech 50 ) lowered to 20 FSW off the diveboat "Reliance" blew the o-ring
out. I had all my own gas with me, as did my buddy, but we had the cylinder
on the boat in case we were able to hit another wreck. We figured hang the
cylinder over the side rather that use it as boat decoration. Charged the
reg at the surfce and then just left it open a tiny tiny bit. When we got to
our 20 foot stop, I slowly rolled it open and pop, blew the o-ring out into
the water in three pieces. I had three spare viton o-rings with me and
replaced it. It then worked fine. Had the service the Zeagle first stage though.

What if I had needed that gas as part of my dive plan ??

What if I didn't have spare o-ring with me ?

What if . . .

Yoke valves ? Just say no.

Just my 2 cents.

Kevin
