Look, the rebreather will be fine, if found. The problem is that the diver's are dead, we cannot fix that, but we certainly should move to prevent this from continuing at greater than Electrolung pace. A few questions for Walter Starck: How long was the traininig program for your machines? Did you accept any one and everyone with cash into the program? Did you allow units to be delivered without training? How many second hand instructors where allowed in the first year or two? If you had it to do over again, what would you change aside from any design issues? Questions for Martin Parker: How many instructors are allowed to teach the INSPIRATION and what qualifications where allegedly required to achieve this status? How many of those are under the immediate supervision of your operation? Of the three fatalities (and 2 near strikes), how many where trained directly by Dave Thompson or where any two or more trained by the same instructor? Do you detect a trend related to training? As I understand it, you have no concern about lawsuits, so I presume you are at liberty to discuss these issue's. Aside from simple respect for humanity, my intentions are to insure we have the fundemental assets available to our industry which are required to grow this NEW area of our sport. Funding is not possible without insurance, insurance does not look good given our underwriters are in your backyard reading your newspapers and not having any clue as to why my operating system and trainign program varies significantly from others. To top this off the stage is already set in several staeside suits involving other systems/trainers. The HALCYON as well as other valid contenders, will be painted with the same brush of "REBREATHER-UNACCEPTABLE RISK". The alternative is to show that as a group we have learned and changed without delay. Whatever you want to call the problem I do not care. The fact is a cure is required-immediately.
