Anyone interested in contacting German techdivers would do well to
give a call to Peter Andraschko, an engineer and cave diver who makes
excellent lights and apparently has developed a new rebreather. He can
be reached at (calling in Germany) at 07774-1295 or FAX: 07774-6122.
Walter Comper is an excellent source but will be here in the states
until March. I'll make sure my info on his PH and FAX are current
before I post them. Both guys are extremely personable, helpful and
have no problems with English (spoken). Walter writes for the German
diving magazine"Taucher" and deals equipment. peter is head/founder of
the speleologicsl institute over there and is always designing
something for diving. His lights are really elegant, with long battery
cases and lite-heads made of stainless steel. The long/thin approach
is necessary for their very high flow caves, where they use steel wire
for a guideline and use a climber's ascending device to "climb" thru
the current. This is in very small tight caves (colder than somewhat)
where fins are useluss. They wear heavy boots for scrambling and
overalls to cover their dry suits. Sounds like fun? Well, when yo
REALLY wanna go cave diving...............
Force fins are certainly strange looking but the design, according to
things I've read and heard, gets power from the larger leg muscles,
therefor causing less fatigue and greater thrust. because we're all
used to a certain feel when we're finning, most divers who try them go
"This don't feel right." But maybe it's just a mind-set. Some users
who have really compared thrust/distance/fatigue need to present an
evaluation. They won't enable you to swim 30 miles on one tank either
-- Jens is strong but do gotta breathe that whole time. He didn't use
rebreaher but pushed the tank(s) out in front of him to reduce drag to
a minimum.

The winner is not the guy who dies with the most toys -- it's his
widow's boyfriend.
