Don't worry about it, webbing is cheap and if it ever shows signs of 
fraying, replace it. 

I don't know about you but I think that a backplate, DIR or otherwise, 
with full size wings pretty much suck for single tanks.

You are better off getting a vest style BC until you get rid of that 
stupid, useless pony and graduate to doubles. You won't regret it the day 
you do and you will kick yourself for all the dives you wasted using the 
stupid single tank/sucky pony. 

And it does not cost a fortune for doubles, get a genesis manifold from 
Trader John, find a couple of used steel 72 (about $30 a pop) and you 
will have doubles for less than what you paid for that 95/lame pony setup.
