It's probably better to start by defining a tech dive, and then define a techdiver as somebody who's up to doing that sort of dive. Possibly the best simple definition of technical diving is diving into an overhead environment. It's a non-tech recreational dive if and only if you can solve any major problem by boogeying to the surface, and a technical dive if that's not an option and you have to solve your problems underwater due to something over you (inside cave or wreck, under ice, under entanglement hazard, under boat traffic or shipping, under a deco ceiling, or simply too deep to be sure you'd be able to blow-and-go). > I thought they had to ride their bikes 45 miles a day, be intimately > acquainted with the pros and cons of bondage, be able to cut multiple tables > in their heads, have -0.5 body fat, absolutely never eat pizza and generally > have a riproaring time cursing each other out...... That might be exaggerating a bit (but hopefully not by too much, although your mileage may vary depending on which group of divers you're with). Being a technical diver is better if it comes to you of its own accord while you're out diving and learning and enjoying what's underwater; striving to become a technical diver as a status symbol is what gets people killed. -- Anthony DeBoer <adb@on*.ca*> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
