I have to say to you guys that the DIR crowd did not pull these ideas out
of their butts.

These are a bunch of serious divers who spend hundreds of hours doing
extreme dives that make our dives look swimming in a bird bath. They also
spend hundreds of hours experimenting with configurations until they get
it just right.

I would imagine that if bilateral stage rigging was what it took to get
the job done, they would do it. But there's a reason for everything in a
hogarth system, it fits together like a machine. These guys haul 6 or
more stages at a time on the left side back into these caves.

I doubt that the hogarth people give a flying frejole' how people
bastardize the system. Just don't do your own thing and then strut around
declaring yourself a hogarth diver.

Sure there are individual hogarth ideas which can improve any divers kit.
Like mounting your light on your belt rather than butt mounting. Or using
a isolation manifold instead independent doubles. But if you really want
to enjoy the many benefits of DIR style you need to try the system in
it's entirety. From my experience you won't regret it.
