Subject: Re: Alternative mounting for canister light ?
An idea and a question from a self proclaimed NON-EXPERT:

First, my impression of the 'Hogarthian method' of rigging is that's it is a
philosophy, or set of guidelines, open to SOME interpretation. It states that
the simplest and most reliable equipment / methods should be used, and places a
high importance on streamlining. "Doing it Right" (TM?) is one (very well
thought out) interpretation of the Hogarthian method. So by saying that
bi-lateral stages are not Hogarthian, do you really mean that 'bi-lateral stages
are not in line with the "Doing it Right" style of rigging/diving?'

Next, my question: I dive a rig that is very different from the "Doing it Right"
style advocated by many on this list. Just yesterday I had the wonderful
opportunity of seeing the DIR (sorry for the abbreviation, I'm getting tired of
typing) rig in action, and I was rather impressed. I saw several things that
will influence future evolutions of my rig. But the Stages on the left sill
seems as tho it would present some balance issues in water. The divers I spoke
with on our boat explained that the AL stages floated, and the Light canister
balanced out the right side. But AL stages don't float when they're full, and
carrying a big canister light isn't always an option or the best idea when
diving in the open ocean (if you don't need it, don't carry it, right?) So how
does carrying two AL stages (theoretically full for most/all of the bottom time
of the dive) without the light affect one's balance and stability in the water?

Please keep flames (if there are any...I hope I've been politically correct in
this post to avoid most of the nastiness) private, and post any useful criticism
or comment in public.

Thanks in advance...!
