>I have a 2metre whip [...] wrapped this around my left shoulder and then >passed it infront of my chest to faster it on the upper d ring of my >zeagle jacket...[annoying] Well, guess it won't work with a zeagle, but my jacket has an open-ended sleeve for an emergency cylinder, which I've binned (well, sold :-), so I just stuff a loop of hose into that - works well. Tried an inner-tube loop on a cylinder, but wasn't happy - came out easy by accident, but not when you wanted it. I think that elastic shock cord would work better. To attach things that I'm going to want in a hurry, I use ordinary Fastex-type quick release connectors, with the "barbs" filed down. They'll take a lot of normal jiggling/movement, but come off easily when needed with a pull.
