Jim, It is possible to use trine in place of zip ties in some applications. But others are not so easily done with twine. like a regulator mouth piece. impossible with twine ?? of course not, just a lot more difficult & messy looking. Would I use a hefty zip tie to hold tanks together?? NO!! nor would I use them to attatch lights, liftbags or scooters. For these things stainless shackels and such work better. There is a place in your dive kit for zip ties, you just need to use common sense. you must make sure that you are not using zip ties that have steel retainers in them. This part must be either stainless or plastic. As far as cheap goes. I would think that twine would be even cheaper than zip ties.
