Jim, Many of us were diving independant doubles long before the "isolation manifold" was available. And for some types of dives it is quite a simple set up. I just spent a week in Bonaire diving independant doubles, doing primarily very long no-stop enriched air dives. It was pretty simple I packed my backplate, wings, and a set of bands. 123... i got doubles. .... 90 minutes dives sure were more fun than 45 minute ones. Now... someone tell me what the difference is between diving a set of independant doubles and diving side-mounts. Seems like gas management rules are the same, redundancy is the same, still need two first, second, and SPG's. Some times a set of splits works just fine.
