The "Bruce Light" sounds like my old Serl, the kind with the reflector and
screw-in bulb, that used 10 "D" cells, only with a sealed-beam lamp. Is
this impression accurate?
I decided this year that buying "D" cells ten at a time was an environmental
and financially silly idea, but I hate to toss away a functional light, so
I started to play with it...
I cut out the 10-cell battery holder and installed a 6V lantern battery. It
took a bit of shopping, but I also found a screw-in 6V lantern battery. The
sucker was downright *anemic* this way, making me wonder if the bulbs that
it used in its 10 "D" (15V) incarnation weren't actually made for 12V use
(I can't check, as I tossed the old bulb). Um, ah, I meant a screw-in 6V
lantern BULB in line 2 of this paragraph...damn VAX).
I also think that the lack of a good reflector was a problem, so...
my next trick is going to be to mount three bulb/reflector units for
my Mini Q-40 behind the screw-on acrylic faceplate, wired in *parallel*
to the battery. This should give me excellent burn-time, and, in essence,
triple-redundancy due to the three independant bulbs.
Now, all I need to do is figure out an elegant mounting scheme for the
bulbs....
....or simply take Tracey Baker's idea and wire in a walk-man.
