I don't know Andy Driver or Bob Raimo, and to this point in time I haven't learned the names of anyone else involved (captain, mates, students, other divers) in Andy's supposedly taking students to the Choapa (aka Junior). I do know enough about the Choapa and those who dive her successfully to say without hesitation that the Choapa is one of the very scariest, baddest wrecks in this region. Wrapped in monofilament from party boats, draped in lost netting from commercial draggers, lying in the silt in the Mud Hole, washed by the dark waters emptying out of the Hudson, and lying in the shipping lanes leading into and out of New York Harbor, the best divers in this region sometimes dive the Choapa as a final, inexpensive (roughly within 15 miles of Manasquan Inlet), scare-the-shit-out-of-yourself tune-up before an expensive trip to the Doria. The Choapa is a bad ass, three knife, disorienting wreck. I'd have to agree that it most certainly is not the place to take a student whose skills one is trying to assess. On the other hand, it does make for one hell of a great tale to add to the many Choapa stories I've already heard.
