Subject: Re: Diver Death in Pompano B. Fl......"Murder on the IANTD Express" ---studen.
Will,

As I stated before, I like Andy. I have never had any problems with Andy
except as mentioned below. But it is IRRESPONSIBLE to take ANY studnets to the
Choapa for the first time, and leave the student alone. This was a mistake and
bad judgment on his part. Based on where he took them diving, and the amount
of dives made, these diveers are now carrying an IANTD card that is worthless.
Here are some FACTS:

1) I trained Andy in a program only to personally witness him palce himself
and others at risk with unmarked cylinders on a dive boat. I corrected him in
a nice, professional manner.

2) His recent mistake involves two crew members and one diver. Now, the crew
members of course are full of ego, so they will defend Andy as they will lose
credibility otherwise.

3) The diver approached myself and JD Selser, and informed us of what
happened. We did not solicit him first. The diver told us what I have told
you, and two other dive instructors have since come foward and confirmed
Andy's actions.

4) Andy left a student alone on the Choapa-so when did the student perform
skills and demonstrate his performance and abilities??

I have no "personal Rivalry" with Andy. Work together?? Sure, but I will not
work with those that certify a northeast diver in tri-mix after having only
dived with a student ONCE in the northeast and having only required TWO dive
on MIX, and then conductedthose dives on the Choapa. This is IRRESPONSIBLE. If
Andys version is different, then lets hear it from Andy. But you will have a
hard time convinceing me, and others that know the Choapa, it was responsible
to take 3 divers there for there tri-mix training dives. 6 inches of vis on
the bottom, student lost.

You tried to dis-credit me (??) by mentioning the WAH WAH dives. Sure, 350fsw+
air dives on my part is dumb. I don't do that anymore. But I never taught it,
and i never jeopardized the safety of any of my students. And I never dived in
the presence of students that would in any way give them the wrong impression.

Bottom line-you're right-it would behoove us to work together.

 >>Until proven otherwise (with more than second-hand hear-say)
I am chocking this whole thing up to personal rivalry, which is
a damn shame, and misrepresents the proper goals of instructors
 everywhere.>>

Regards, Bob
