Tai was a cargo pilot and their physicals are less comprehensive than
those of passenger pilots, as I understand it. It is sometimes difficult
to diagnose vein blockage. One method is using a stethoscope to listen
for a "swish" of blood squirting past a restriction. The latest technique
is to use ultrasound to look at a cross-section of the veins in the neck.
Both require a skilled physician to perform the task.

You are right, Tai probably could have had this coronary mowing the lawn
or even asleep. But it seems to me that being 180' under in low-viz 42F
water, untangling a wreckreel with the clock ticking can be just a tad
bit stressful... It would be for me.
