Regarding Stingray Divers in Brooklyn, NY -- Contrary to what Mr. Raimo wrote, the owner of Stingray was NOT turned away by ANDI/Ed Betts and holds a FULL TRIMIX BLENDER CERTIFICATION from ANDI, earned from a course personally given by Ed Betts. This is in addition to the IANTD Nitrox blender certification he earned from taking the course with Randy. Anyone who wants to verify this should call/email either ANDI or IANTD. Since I started working at Stingray(yep, I work there), I have seen nothing but the highest attention paid to standards and techniques regarding blending, O2 cleaning and equipment repairs. This is only as far as I can tell. I am NOT a certified gas blender and I base these assumptions on various seminars given by Global and other manufacturers that I have attended over the past couple of years at DEMA. I don't personally know Bob Raimo - and from what I understand his/Scuba Depot's repair tech, J.D., is one of the best in the country. It just bugs me that someone can get on here and say that Stingray was turned away by Ed Betts/ANDI when 5 days a week I see the cert cards issued by Ed Betts and the ANDI VIP stickers with Stingray's name, address and phone # printed on 'em. Maybe he just heard it wrong from Ed. Sincerely, Tony Thomas "dive shop monkee"(sic) BTW, the owner of Stingray didn't solicit me to write this and has no idea that I am doing so. But if he did happen to hear about it and decided to give me a Tekna scooter and a $20,000 raise I wouldn't say no. just kiddin'. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
