Volker, your ideas are slippery slopes, as far as most Americans are concerned. While it may not be a good idea, or advisable for your grandmother to dive, I think most of us agree that it's UP TO HER whether or not she dives, or how she kills herself. You want to be careful starting down hills that look slippery, or sure as hell, someone is going to stop anyone from diving that uses more than one question mark on the internet. We have a long history of resisting the FIRST lost freedom, not the last straw. Personally, I think it would be far better for diving to be illegal, as long as it applied evenly to all, than for it to be legal for some, but not for others. Your grandmother can skydive, ski, snowboard (if she smokes pot, apparently), hike, rock climb, and execute technical dives, with my blessing. The only thing that stops her is her choice. Those of you who think there is something more important than that choice sound naive and childish to those of us who have witnessed the absence of that choice. That choice is worth dying for, and many, many have done exactly that. Your "logic" pales in comparison to their sacrifice. Since you don't appreciate this choice thing, you have a conflicting opinion. You are entitled to hold this opinion, again, courtesy of American Veterans. You're welcome. Your grandmother can choose for herself, regardless of your opinion of her ability to do so. I'm sure she appreciates that, even with the grandson that she has. She's welcome, too. ------------ "C'mon, you sons of bitches, you want to live forever?" -First Sergeant Dan Daly, 1918 ------------ -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
