Subject: Re: Cold water performance of Scuba Pro Regs
Randy:
I did not mean to suggest that I have seen the same percentage of freezing
problems in all brands of regulators, nor that they froze in the closed
position. In fact, I have never made any kind of tally of regulator problems.
It does seem that the higher performance regulators are the ones that are more
likely to free flow. A freezing condition in the first stage usually results
in a free flow not a lockup situation.

In answer to your question about the location of my boat - I skipper
"Enterprise", a 30 ton, 42 ft steel boat out of the Port of Waukegan, Illinois
on Lake Mighigan. Enterprise is used exclusively as a diver support vessel
for both recreational and commercial charters. From March through October we
make morning and afternoon or all day ship wreck excursions every Saturday and
Sunday, and Wednesday evening night dive trips . Commercial charters are only
a small part of our business and they are always on weekdays.

Hope this helps.

Dive safely,
Dale

Where are you running your boat?

I have not noticed any propensity for SP regulators to freeze,

I have only ever seen one reg freeze up. It actualy shut off. It was a
dacor reg out of the box. It was the dacor sevice tech for a local dive
shop that was diving it. I don't think he even dives any more.

I have also listened to proponents and detractors of
 >every brand swear that their chosen brand never freezes and that the other
 >brand is especially prone to the problem.

On your boat all regs have the same % rate of freeflow. When I ran my boat
I kept a runnig tailly of brand name failures( I didn't care to record the
models). Sertain brand name stuck out like a sore thumb.
