If you're going to need eg. 20cf to safely complete the dive from the furthest/deepest point, then no, nobody in their right mind does the dive with a 13cf pony. A 30cf bottle would be more than enough, though. As with any form of independent doubles, it's more equipment, more weight, more drag, and more money. You need to "play by the rules" and have adequate gas in both systems; if either gets compromised you have to call the dive, the same as you would if either back gas reg in a manifolded system died.
