The policy you describe encourages a diver to use his pony once he's got to reserve (50 bar) rather than be thrashed by the dive marshall after the post-dive check. That 50 bar is not to be touched under any circumstances, even if you've got big twins on your back in 10 meteres of water :-( A lot of divers (BSAC) dive with ponys here, and they all look scarily strokey IMO.
