I mean you dont need most of that stuff most of the time, but if your going way offshore then one might. Of course then when you have decided that a particular dive might require these items there is the issue of how to bring them and how to use them right. I have a small ACR survival strobe/light combo and one of those tiny sausages that I carry in a pouch( it will go into a leg pocket when I get one). An underwater strobe can be useful to mark the anchor on the wrek right? I have also heard some of the guys up here who use strobes to mark their penetration lines while conducting deep penetration dives. They clip a strobe to every tie off point. I'm not too sure if this is necessary. The art of safe cave diving discusses strobes and that they should never be used for navigation in caves. But what about open water/ ocean wrek diving? Comments?? I have seen guys carry flares and smoke/dye marker in old dive light housings. I have been considering this for offshore diving. Also I have heard about the use of a personal EPIRB carried in a similar manner. Comments?? The flare /smoke/EPIRB deal also usually is caried in a leg pocket. I sent this to the list as well, just for laughs. Cheers, Al Marvelli aka KybrSose@ao*.co* -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
