What do you need a pony for for regular OW diving? I gave all of my regular OW gear to my girlfriend, and went with a backplate and Brownie's 15 lb wing. I use an 'H' valve on my tank with my burst disc plugged. I use the same regulator setup on my OW rig and my doubles rig (changing the regs around is a pain in the ass). The only thing I'd do differently is use a 'Y' instead of an 'H'. I use a single 104, drysuit, SS backplate, etc. If I have a reg failure then you can just shut it down, and go for the backup, so why have a pony? Just use proper gas management, and don't suck your tank dry. You can use a 7 ft hose if you have a light, other wise the 5 ft hose works. This gives you a nice upgrade path to doubles (if you don't already own them), and your gear is identical no matter what kind of diving you do. -Jon -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
