Subject: Re[2]: Openwater Hogarthian with PONY??
     Jim,

While the 15c.f. pony might be enough to get someone from 130feet
to the surface with a safety hang at 15feet, I prefer the extra
security of a 30cf just in case. This allows me to make a comfortable,
slow ascent to the safety stop, without getting too worried about
having "just enough air." :) A full 30cf isn't all that heavy
anyway. So, given that the PONY should be sling mounted, what length of
hose is appropriate for OW applications? Anyone?

                                                        -Nathan...

Look guys, the whole hogarth idea is for decompression diving. Trying to
apply decompression gas management principles to NDC diving is a waste of
time. The only use for a pony is to give you enough air to get from the
bottom straight to your 3 min. 10' stop. A 15 cu.ft. tank is enough for
this.

If you are decompression diving, then the solution is a set of doubles,
and turn at 1/3s. This will give you enough gas for whatever situation
you might come across.

To rely on a pony for backup decom gas is as stupid as diving independent
doubles. An H valve is a halfway measure, does not measure up to doubles
with a isolator.
