Lets put my original post in a little more perspecitive.

1] This is a bailout reel i.e. it is not used in normal circumstances.

2] boat cover in the UK is not moored it is ready and waiting for this
type of thing

3] It would be very difficult to miss a large delayed SMB - mine is 1m
tall and since I deploy from the wreck it would come up near the boat.

4] If one buddy pair used a delayed SMB the boat would follow that -
then return the the wreck and pick up other divers who have come up the
shotline (do you use shotlines there?)

5] It has to be remenmbered that if >1 buddy pair use delayed SMB's then
they are both going to be affected by approx the same currents.

6] I would say that with lots of buddy pair in the water and 1 boat then
I would not be happy about doing lots of deco from a delayed SMB - but
then a lot depends on the state of the tide...... etc

7] I agree that in some a fixed line is better - however the increased
deployment time and the need to either dive again to get it back or
leave it to tangle other divers seems to offset this greatly.
