For those of you asking about the NAUI tech standards. I have a complete set for anyone who's interested. They will also be available at DEMA. There was a committee. I have no idea how you got on the committee. The committee did make input but the standards were primarily written by Jeffrey Bozanic (cavers should know him pretty much) and Timothy O'Leary of South Padre Texas. I don't know his e-mail. Jeff can probably be located through Lamar Hires. The standards do have some bizarre parts. Mandatory covers on all oxygen bottles second stages (maybe dive rite has an interest) (just kidding), there is deep air (i.e. use of air below 130), tri-mix is broken up into two courses. I think the standards can be fixed with input from the membership and direct contact with Tim or Jeff. Personally I've been very involved with NAUI for years and think their recreational program is the best. However, in my opinion the technical standards were written too fast and without enough input from others. But NAUI is an organization where changes can be made by the membership and those alot more competent than I am should take the steps to see those changes come about. In the meantime, as written now, I think there are some parts which could cause serious injury, ex. #1: air below 130. But I'm a newbie so I'm not really qualified in this arena. And I'm not entirely convinved as to why NAUI moved into tech but then again I'm not necessarily saying they shouldn't. All I can say for sure is that NAUI will listen and make changes accordingly if the suggestions are made. No single individual "controls" any aspect of NAUI. Anyone seeking more detailed info can e-mail me personally. Also the Chairman of NAUI, Keith SLiman will also reply to any questions or other comments.
