Subject: NAUI Tech standards
Because someone forwarded my posts on this topic to jed livingstone, the
training director of NAUI the following is how it has to go if people want
tech standards.

Order them from NAUI for about $36.00. (1-800-553-NAUI) Jed says anyone can
order, not only NAUI members. Order the standards and procedures manual and
the tech standards are in the back. You can also get them on diskette and
then register on NAUI's home page for automatic updates.

Also it is maintained that Jeff and Tim did not author the standards,
although I personally still believe they were key persons involved in the
development. They were on the committee so keep that in mind if you want to
register comments with them. NAUI training ultimately has the
responsibility so sending your comments directly there is more useful.

Again, if you want changes it can be done, but I was not told for certain
when the next changes would be made but was assured they would be made
quickly when necessary. For myself, I was glad to hear that because I'm not
taking a jersey up-line on every dive I make or putting biodegradable line
on all my reels when I have no intention of leaving them or putting
so-called oxygen covers on all my deco tank regulators when I teach. (sorry
Dive Rite no sales here, although the wings are great) I would like to
support NAUI in their technical endeavors but as the standards are written
that isn't posssible. But I'm just one measely person/instructor without a
store. Apparently several stores have signed on with them and the standards
as written. If more people are dissatisfied, please write to them and maybe
some changes will occur quickly. It would be nice to see NAUI succeed in this.

p.s. hello jed - I'm sure our friend will forward this on to you so I just
thought I'd say hi while I had the chance, of course then again he may leave
this part out.
