We would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude for everyone who showed up for the New Years Eve midnight dive. Even though the air temperature was 26 degrees the water was a warm 66 degrees. Being in a cave at midnight was an incredible experience that will not soon be forgotten. The warm post-dive campfire was enjoyed by all and we got the key back to the sheriff's office by 4:00 a.m.! Had two great follow up dives on New Years day and night with another great fire. We hope to make the Exley Memorial dive an annual event. Hope to see you there next year. As a side note. Spoke with Sheriff McDaniel of Jackson County. The autopsy revealed that the cave diving fatality that occurred last week was as a result of air embolism due to the fact that the victim's heart cantained no blood, just air. It appears that the probable cause of this accident was a result of inexperience with a dry suit and violation of a basic rule of scuba - holding your breath on ascent. Again, we extend our deepest sympathies to the members of the victim's family. The good news is that this fatality has had no bearing on the cave diving policies as they currently exist. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
