Jim, Thanks for the info. I never have my Dacor on high. Tried that the first time I got it. Tried to dig and practically gave myself an expansion... :-) I usually leave it on low or medium, depends on the digging. If I know the spot to dig I'll leave it on low so I can dig for a long time, less likely to have the small stuff blown away. If I'm prospecting for a new hole I'll have it on medium so I can blast off the top 1-2 feet and move on if it doesn't look promising. Are Torpedo brands the only ones which look like their name? The ones I'm refering too are the ones you see used in all the tropical magazines. Handels up front, long bullet with a prop on the back? Thanks for the info. safe diving, Art. art.paltz@r2*.co* Last Dive 12/26/97, Ida Kay, NJ 79ft/30 min bottom time, 47 degrees F, 40% bottom mix -- Flooded wrist seals, boy that was cold! -----Original Message----- From: Jim Cobb [SMTP:cobber@ci*.co*] Sent: Wednesday, December 31, 1997 11:58 AM To: Paltz, Art; Diver Mailing List (E-mail) Subject: RE: Torpedo scooters Torpedo is a brand name, not a class of scooters. The only real options a diver has is cough up the big bucks for a Gavin (pull) or Farallon (ride) or go with a Mako or Dacor/Apollo. The Makos have a tendency to leak, which is not good for salt water (OK for fresh), the Dacors don't leak but have short burn times at full power, only 25mins or so. I use a Dacor and have 2 batteries. It's a good wreck shuttle/digger. If you attach a ring to the shroud you can clip onto your crotch strap and use one-handed. The switch has a "on" lock so you can set your "cruse control" or use either hand. Jim On 12/31/97 10:29 AM Paltz, Art wrote: >Been reading this thread for a while now.
