There ought to be a mechanism for "grand fathering" divers like myself who have well over the 100 dives (325+) and who don't keep a log, who have never cared about another patch for the jacket and don't really need a diploma on the wall. How about foreign divers? A foreign diver with 1000 dives but not an instructor could not pass muster. I was certified in 1990 and I didn't start scootering until I had around 150 dives on the advice of my instructor, J. Billy Young. I did everything right, I followed the rules and yet I don't qualify because I wasn't slobbering after recognition. I agree with the purpose and I agree with the standard, but what about those who meet and exceed the standard but don't have the cool card? There needs to be another method for confirming ability or previous dive experience. JoeL -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
