I have an Oceanic Datatrans Plus (the new air-integrated EANx version),
which has the "new extended deep diving algorithm". I have taken this
computer on half a dozen or so dives to 50m (165ft) for which I have cut
dive plans using desktop deco software first, and planned to use the
computer as a depth, time and gas gauge.

It has had no problem with the deco, although it doesn't give enough (IMHO).
In fact, it would let me out of the water 5-10 mins before my desktop plan,
and 3-6 mins before a dive buddy using an Aladin NitroX.

BUT, like all Oceanic computers it has three zones of deco, green (okay),
yellow (Caution) and red (deco). When I say it lets me out of the water
earlier, I mean that it goes out of deco into the yellow. What I have found
so far on every dive is that it moves out of yellow and into the green plus
or minus 30 seconds of my plan cut on the desktop.

So my backup plan (I still cut plans on the desktop) is to use the DTP until
its at least back into the green zone.

It doesn't allow gas changes, this would be nice, but since it doesn't I
also get the benefit of my higher FO2 deco mix, so I have heaps of fudge in
my dive plan.

This is the way I use my computer, always interested in other opinions and
methods.

Regards, Des
