First of all, thanks to everyone who replied.  There were so many, I can't
reply individually so I thought I'd post a summary of views. 
 
Genreally, most people recommended the G250 over the G500.  The problems
reported were: 
1) The adjuster knob coming off - which I gather has now been fixed 
2) Takes on water when you turn your head or when scootering 
3) The plastic design is more flimsy than the G250 and more likely to break
is say a tank fell on it. 
 
However, there were also some positive replied in favour of the G500. 
 
My personal view is that the G250 has been around for years and is a tried
and tested reg in many environments, whereas the G500 is more recent.  I
think I'd feel more comfortable with the G250. 
 
One person was a little concerned about the quality of parts used in the
newer regs, such as replacing brass parts with plastic etc.  Anyone know
anything more about this?
