Weight is one advantage, at least for us hardy cold water divers who use
thick wet suits or dry suits with real underwear. Besides, you only have
to buy the adapter as you already have the back plate and harness. OMS
makes everything in stainless steel, and with two back plates and the
single tank adapter plus a nice heavy steel tank it takes care of the
buoyancy requirements as well, again assuming you need that much weight
due to insulation etc. That gets a little expensive, at least up here, but
I think it's worth it comfort wise. It helps my heavy feet to a great
extent, not having any weight around the waist. I've always wondered how
anyone can need ankle weights, but I digress.

Is there a picture of the Sea Tec single tank adapter on the web
somewhere?

About the original question regarding the stability of this set up: It's
stable. The grommets on the wings do deform a little if you tighten
everything down, but after a couple of dives there is no need to retighten
any more. I'm using LP steels and it's the only way I would dive them due
to their weight, hence need for a stable attachment.

Egil.
