I had a friend who thought the same thing. He didn't carry a snorkel until he
had an interesting dive on a beach in Hawaii, where there is a
very strong current flowing out to sea. After swimming in place
for a while, and being nearly swept out to sea, he decided a
snorkel can come in handy at times. Some
of the Hawaiian divers might know the name of this bay (it
escapes me at the moment), it's where their is an underwater
cable running out to sea for divers to pull themselves along
against the current.
