Terry You got it mate - Join the mix club and not only will you mortgage your first born for gas but you will also need to sell the wife to pay for the gear you will need. I did a quick calculation the other day and at a rough estimate I reckon I get into the water with around $10,000 worth of gear and believe me thats doing it on the cheap!! I cant wait to start some serious tech diving!! There is some light at the end of the tunnel. Firstly your gas calculation is bit over the top unless you are going for a very big bottom time. Remember that with mix you will carry only enough gas for your bottom time (plus margin) and as most of our dives are in open water, you will also need to carry the required amount of deco / travel gas with you. This limits your bottom times for practical purposes to around 20 - 25 mins. Secondly, the price you have been quoted is full tote odds retail and you can get a much better deal. My gas cost for a 20min dive to 75m works out to around $60 -$70. Hope this throws some light on the problem! Roll on rebreathers !!! Chris Vautin CVAUTIN@OZ*
