I have just been notified that Fred "Citizen Kane" Garth, pillar of truth, justice and responsible journalism continues to apply his investigative talents towards ferreting out and exposing "fear and loathing" on the Internet wherever he can find it. Apparently, Mr. Garth, a Central Florida publisher of such notable zines as Scuba Times and DeepTek has just fired a warning shot across the bow of WKPP team member Barry Miller. Fred has accused Barry of "forging" (yes you heard it right the first time) the signature of Curt Bowen on a copied email as well as committing other unspecified fraudulent acts. Under any other circumstances this would be side splitting funny if it wasnt for the darker ramifications of this action. This same Mr. Garth permitted his magazine DeepTek to be used as a bully pulpit for the dissemination of numerous inaccurate, unsubstantiated and unverifiable remarks attributed to George Irvine. These remarks were contained in an article which was so defamatory and potentially actionable as to appall even the most biased of readers through its shear negligent irresponsibility. His "fear and loathing" story employs the crudest methods to vilify Irvine by characterizing him as a mean spirited and evil demon whose associates in the WKPP are no better than mindless, brainwashed, goose stepping fascists. As one of the targets of this article, I hold Fred Garth personally responsible and will not rest until he has issued a written apology to all of the membership of WKPP. Even the National Enquirer and the Star exercise more journalistic accuracy and restraint than DeepTek. Unlike DeepTek, the Enquirer pays out vast settlements annually to the injured victims of its journalistic affronts. Apparently, Fred Garth is using DeepTek as a first amendment crash test dummy. Somebody needs to explain to him the consequences of destructive testing. Regards, Bill Mee -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
