Subject: BAGHOLDER
Fred, you are like the guy who drives the getaway car. No matter how
much you give us the Sargent Schultz ("I know nothing") treatment you
are still an accessory to the crime and just as guilty as the
triggerman. Unfortunately, in this case you are the "deep pockets" and
your ne’er-do-well accomplice will no doubt cast you under the bus.
Perhaps, on cross examination, you will testify that Gilliam "coerced"
you into doing it or even better yet, you were fooled and misled by
deceptive and conniving subordinates. Of course this may strain the
limits of believability when Curt Bowen testifies that he emphatically
advised all parties against the publication of "Fear and Loathing".
Among other things this action is a vicious insult to the memory of our
friend and supporter, the late Win Remley, who worked so hard to build
DeepTek into a viable publication.

The "Fear and Loathing" article violates every known standard of
journalistic ethics and overwhelms even the most stringent litmus test
for libel. Outside of the obvious defamatory overtones the article is
filled with unsubstantiated quotations drawn from indeterminate and
hearsay sources. Much of the material was taken without permission from
a private discussion list and I personally can document several
references which are either contrived or blatantly false. Even
supermarket tabloids document and validate the sources of their
misinformation.

The only reasonable and decent option left to you now is to publish a
thorough retraction and apology for "Fear and Loathing" and verify that
every subscriber receives it. Furthermore, the complete text of the
retraction must be published on the Internet so that all parties may
share in the truth.

So look at yourself now Fred and see who is left holding the bag.

Comport yourself accordingly,

Bill Mee
