I've been breathing the cheap O2 for years, with nary a problem of "objectionable odor" (got started nitrox mixing mainly because I had a big tank of welding O2 around already). But helium, I am told is a little different - the "cheap stuff", depending where you get it, may be an ungraded crude helium that may have as much as 40% "other" stuff, for low end welding and filling ballons.
