Sweetheart, we ( cavers ) don't glue or metal the mouth pieces since we plug the same reg into Scuba Pro FFM if we are feeling a little toxy - not likely to happen on a wreck dive, but just thought you might like to know this. Also, when you say "cavers", you have to distinguish between the annelids and the WKPP.
