"Flying & contact lenses do more damage than Diving & Contact lenses...and
when diving you actually have a terrarium effect from the mask, whereas when
flying you can become dehydrated and the eyes can dry out. "
(this is a quote from my eye doctor, whom I just saw yesterday. He has 3
patients that he watches very closely as they are all avid divers including
myself)

On a personal note, I've been diving with my lenses (daily wear & disposable

lenses) for 4 years. My max depth was 178', (though on average most dives
are 60-90') and I've never had any problems with my lenses clouding,
misting, or creating a vacuum. I also visit the eye doctor every 6 months.

There are only 2 concerns I would have when diving w/ lenses:

1) if the lens doesn't "fit" right, then it is susceptible to come out
during your dive, and
if you're as nearsighted as I am, then you'd basically be diving
Braille.
In this case, the added security of a prescription mask is comforting.

2) is if you had to do frequent mask clearing there is the possibility of
getting coral dust between your eye and your lens, this can create
irritation, and infection.

Now I was told by my instructor that I should never wear contacts below 30ft
because it would create a vucuum between my eye and the lens when i
resurfaced
That would suck if I had to go to the hospital to get a suctioned contact
removed from my eye... I bet it wouldn't be half as fun as making a visit to
a chamber. Yippee!
Needless to say I bought the prescription lenses for my mask
