I think DAN just had an article on this. There was slightly higher incidence of edema and other little problems among divers than terrrestrials, and some divers reported misting. A very slight fraction, if I recall, reported serious vision loss. The problems were worst with hard lenses without holes; I guess some hard lenses have a hole in them to allow your eye to breath, and those were about as good as regular soft lenses. A note on lenses washing out: if you open your eyes with lenses in in fresh water, due to the variation in solution, the contacts are hypotonic and tend to stick. They feel nasty and tacky, almost dried out and gummy. In salt water, just the opposite happens, and they tend to jump out in the hypertonic solution. Sometimes you open your eyes accidentally, and you may have noticed this. Don't try this at home, and don't depend on it. You'll lose your lenses either way, and probably get stuff growing in them and the infection will crawl into your brain and you'll start writing bad checks. I warned you. ======================================================= Roger Carlson w 310-812-0430 somewhere off Hermosa Beach, CA f 310-812-1363 roger@ch*.sp*.tr*.co* h 310-frogger =======================================================
