He is being overcautious, but I wouldn't say he OBVIOUSLY never took a course in
glass blending.  I got this straight from the TDI manual on gas blending:
"Piping
should be free of sharp curvers, and the greater the radius the better.  Any
extremely sharp curve or restriction can act as an obstruction should the O2
pressure be accidentally applied too quickly."  I agree, he is applying this
concept in the wrong context (meant for o2 delivery sytems), but isn't
overcautious better than careless?
