	How many wrecks ?
20 to 30 and most are in ether very shallow ( 10 -25 fsw) or at
the sport limit but so old and rotted that nothing worth seeing is left.
We have a few OK wrecks in the 120 - 185 fsw range that are intrusting,
however, finding charters to take one there is tough. If you are willing
to travel in the 100 to 200 mile range then the qty of wrecks increases.

In the San Diego area are several artificial reefs and a few
that were not deliberate to included a W.W.I Sub (S38).

	What kind of Wrecks ?
From old paddle wheel mail ships to a few Navy wrecks. Three of
the Navy wrecks all sit within swimming distance of each other, however,
the conditions suck.... 15 to 30 fsw in heavy surge with very low vis.
Not a beach dive! A real good adventure when one can find a boat willing
to take you there.

I have dived all the beach accessible wrecks and some are quite
interesting. One of our most interesting and kindof advanced wrecks is
25 minutes from Long Beach Harbor and sits in 145 fsw, The Moody. About
a year and one half ago we lost a father and son and bent a few others
on that wreck. The father was the author of the local Dive Boat Magazine
and a very Prominent figure in our dive community so, not a lot of boats
go to the deeper wrecks as normal charter.

	Local Ocean Characteristics ?
	Coldest 48 Deg F warmest 74 Deg F
Last weekend I assisted in an advance class deep dive at Redondo
beach. We dove to Submarine Canyon. The dive was to 110 fsw. The temp on
the surface was 72 Deg F and the first thermalcline was at 55 fsw a boon
chilling 61 deg F. It felt good to cool down after a surf entry. The
bottom was 57 Deg F.

From the shore you cna dive large kelp forest with vis ranging
from 3 feet to 40 feet. At our local channel IL the conditions vary from
protected marine parks with outstanding vis and life to the backside of
Catalina at Farnsworth Banks where purple coral grows.

I love diving here, I get to see it all. During the summer the
Orcas be close in to the shore the kelp is like walking through a forest
and it all can be done from the shore.

	Cave systems ?
Good Question... I do not know of any...., However, I am not
into that.

Dives within the expedition distance ?
What is the expedition distance ?
We have lots of sites up and down the coast, one to two days
travel. I mostly dive on one to two day round trips to the channel
Islands. If you want you can go to Mexico (145 Mi South) or Monterey or
San Francisco (More Wrecks).

Anyone dived California and in the UK and can compare ?

How about the great whites, are they a problem ?
I know of only one Diver attacked by a White, it made evening
news. Lots' of surfers get it however (lot's being 1-3 a year) The diver
was a commercial urchin hunter and he was swimming on the surface with a
bag full of chum in the seal breading area.

	This is very important !!
Thanks in advance, oh yes and what are the Californian ladies
like ?
	Phil.
I love summer here.............Very little left to the minde to dream
about.
