Caves systems in California: There are no fresh water caves that I know of, but there are many sea caves on the Northern Channel Islands off the California coast from Santa Barbara to Ventura. Most have an air space overhead, although some continue underwater in the back of the cave, forming an actual cavern or cave. There are also a few caves whose entrances begin entirely submerged. Most of the island caves are only a couple hundred feet long, although there are a few in the 400 to 600ft range, and even one that is 1200ft long. All are very shallow, usually above 40ft. Unlike some of the Florida caves, and most of the caves in Mexico, the visibility is usually only 20-30ft at best, and can often be close to zero. In addition, there is almost always a moderate surge pushing divers in and out of the cave. Some of the caves are actually tunnels with another (usually smaller) entrance at the back. The action of the surge can suck a diver in and trap him at the other entrance, or spit him out violently. One famous such cave is called the "Time Tunnel" and has killed several divers to date. If anyone knows of any fresh water caves systems in California that are divable, I'd love to hear about them. -Tim Bakken >> > > > Hello All, > > I was recently offered a job in the US, in Santa Clara California.
