After posting a short commentary on how my "Cochran/Beuchat" computer was rife with problems a couple of weeks ago, I had an email conversation with Mike Cochran, and he pointed out that Cochran Consulting stopped manufacturing computers for Beuchat last year. He rightly pointed out that it's unfair that his firm should take the flame for Beuchat's problems. So if you have problems with your Beuchat, trash Beuchat, not Cochran. I have a Beuchat, so I hereby stand publicly corrected: My _Beuchat_ implementation of the Cochran designed, Cochran Patent Pending, and formerly Cochran-manufactured Maestro Pro Enriched Air computer has major quality problems. I'm sure its just a coincidence, since there is absolutely no affiliation, that these problems seem to be very similar to the problems several people on this and other forums have noticed in their Cochran computers of similar make and model. In all fairness, Mike Cochran was actually very generous in that he offered to take a look at my Beuchat, even though they didn't build it, and he's apparently got a new Nitrox Air Integrated computer. I suspect that after all the grilling these guys took over their last offering, we won't hear bitching about the new one. Secondly, I'm sure that to a certain extent, their reputation has been compromised by the vocal minority, which is probably a very small percentage of thier user base. On the other hand, it is kindof curious that there aren't any other computer manufacturers with such a vocal minority. -Will -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
