Carl, Peter,

I have a Sony VX-1000 and Amphibico housing (VH-1000), which I used on my
recent Palau expedition. The external microphone is actually VERY
sensative and very high quality sound capture. I don't know how much of
this is the housing, and how much is the camera, because I once used the
camera in the housing without the housing's microphone attached, and it
still picked up audio amazingly well (although not as well as the
housing's microphone does). The only problem is that the microphone
leaked water into the housing on a dive to 290' or so (fortunately, the
camera was not damaged, and Amphibico fixed it quickly for no charge).

> Look out Digital BetaCam!

For what it's worth, the Discovery crew had a Digital BetaCam in Palau, but I
couldn't tell the difference between its image quality and the quality of my
camera's image. Maybe it was the monitor, but it was a pretty good quality
monitor.

Aloha,
Rich
